Dot Braille is the New Smartwatch for the Visually Impaired

It has always been a challenge for the watch makers for making time-keeping wrist watches for the visually impaired. The traditional method included the use of crystals on the watch face, that would flip up. This would help the wearer feel the position of its hands. Though it was not a very sound method of watch engineering as the touches to the watch hands could falter the actual time.

Dot is the new smartwatch that is made using braille giving the wearer the actual time. This smartwatch apart from just telling time also gives notifications to the visually impaired. Due to the use of braille, it makes it possible to give true and rich notifications instead of putting just numbers for the time.

Looking to its dial, you can make out that it is made of aluminum weighing just 27 grams in all. The dial is 12.5mm thick and the watch face measures 43mm across. The dial is attached to any one of the three different sized leather straps.

Additionally, the dial of the Dot braille comes with a touch sensor, Bluetooth, rechargeable battery and vibration motors. Underneath the dial, there are four motorized modules each having six dots. Each of these dots can be lowered or raised individually so that the smartwatch can represent up to four braille characters at a time.

The wearer can then read the dial in a similar way as he/she would by putting braille on a plane piece of paper. The concave shaped dial adds additional protection rim around the braille modules. Take a look at the Dot promo video below:
